Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce: Healthcare Resolution

As prepared by the Government Review Council Health Committee
Adopted by the Government Review Council on February 24, 2010

The Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce supports state efforts in healthcare reform, particularly as it relates to providing access to affordable health insurance products for small employers, who are a key part of the economic engine of the state.

We recognize that the Utah Health Exchange is a good mechanism for increasing choice for employers and their employees as they purchase health insurance products. We also believe that participating in the Exchange will result in savings for small employers by reducing expenses associated with managing healthcare plans for their employees.

We further support the concept that long-term the Exchange will have a mitigating effect on the rate of increase in the cost of health insurance. It also will provide a benefit to employees by allowing them to aggregate premiums in purchasing insurance plans.

We believe that in order for the Exchange to be successful, broad participation by employers is key.
