Utah Valley Chamber Supports Provo City Efforts to Keep Utilities Solvent

May 20, 2010-Resolution

The Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce Government Review Council has passed a resolution in support of Utah County cities remaining financially prudent in the use of Enterprise Funds. It is our opinion that those funds should not be used in the general fund in an attempt to balance a city’s budget except for a reasonable return on investment.

The Government Review Council applauds Provo City for their transparency and work at educating and informing businesses and the public about the need to make adjustments to the current utility rate structures. Such effort has been more than the statutorily required public hearing and has increased the ability for constituents to be informed.

We believe that informed constituents are better able to support and hold government accountable. Constituents are also better able to understand and assess the need to remain fiscally sound, and in keeping the utilities of the city self sustaining, at an appropriate rate structure.
