Local Charity Calls on Facebook Users for Support

A Provo charity, The Now I Can Foundation, is seeking support from all Facebook users to help raise funds to treat disabled children. The nonprofit foundation has been entered into a contest hosted by APX Alarm Company, a Provo based company. The APX Gives Back Project is going to give $250,000 to charities across the nation and the race is on to get the most votes from Facebook users. The charity with the most votes will receive $100,000 while the top finisher in each of 5 regions will receive $30,000. Voting started June 14 and will go until August 21, 2010. Voters can vote once per day. Thus far Now I Can has consistently been in the top 3 of their region.

The Now I Can Foundation is a non-profit charity that provides physical therapy to children with neuromuscular disorders (i.e. Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, etc). Specializing in intensive and suit therapy, the therapists and team at Now I Can are devoted to helping disabled child reach their full potential.

When asked why this is such a great opportunity for the community to help, founder of Now I Can and mother of a disabled daughter, Tracey Christensen said, “People are always asking us what they can do to help. This is a perfect opportunity, and it’s easy enough that you can do it from the comfort of your home computer. It only takes a few seconds. This money could be a huge benefit to the kids we serve; all of it would go to help pay their costs of physical therapy.”

Anyone interested in voting for The Now I Can Foundation can do so by following this link: http://apps.facebook.com/apxgivesback/ then clicking “start voting,” and finally searching for The Now I Can Foundation in the “Mountain Region.”

Aspen Senior Care Unique to Utah Valley

Utah Senior Population to Increase Nearly 40% by 2015
Utah’s New Aspen Senior Center is First-of-it’s Kind Day Facility
With Alzheimer’s Certified Care and Hourly/Daily Options
for Family Caregivers

Award-Winning Services Provide Drop-in Care
With Specialized Activities and Catered Lunch

PROVO, UT — June 29, 2010 — Aspen Senior Center, LC, today announced the grand opening of their first-of-its-kind facility located at 3410 North Canyon Road in Provo, Utah. The center offers economical, high-quality care for $10 per hour or $58 daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The new center provides award-winning senior care, Alzheimer’s trained staff and unique activities for seniors who have family/caregivers who work. The staff of the new Aspen Senior Center has been certified by the Alzheimer’s Association in their Foundations of Dementia Care. Its parent company, Aspen Senior Care, recently won the 2010 Best of Home Care Award for their Caregivers Work Ethic and Agency Response to Problems.

“We’ve seen a dramatic increase in the need for quality, cost-effective senior care over the past five years,” said Gary Staples, Owner/Administrator, Aspen Senior Care and Aspen Senior Center. “Seniors need and want social, mental and physical stimulation and their caregivers need more economical options. Recent government statistics clearly show a tidal increase in the retirement population. The pressure on adult children of seniors (aka the “Sandwich Generation”) can be substantial. They’re caught between raising their own families and caring for parents. With a poor economy and rising job loss—they’re stretched to the breaking point emotionally and financially. The Aspen Senior Center is here to meet their needs and take the pressure off. And with daily and hourly care options—we don’t break the bank.”

Nick Zullo, Program Director, Alzheimer’s Association Utah Chapter, agrees.
“I know of no other facility in Utah Valley that has the Alzheimer’s certification, activities, and care that the Aspen Senior Center has. This is the place to go if you want excellent, economical care with well-trained caregivers and staff. This is where I’d want to be…”

Statistics on Aging:
According to recent statistics by the Dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS) Administration on Aging, the older population — persons 65 years or older — numbered 38.9 million in 2008 (the latest year for which data is available) representing 12.8% of the U.S. population, or nearly one in every eight Americans. It is projected that by 2030, there will be nearly 72.1 million older persons, more than twice their number in 2000.
