September Friday Forum

Friday, September 2, 2011

This morning we held our first Friday Forum of the year at the Provo Marriott with a great turn out. We had the privilege to hear from Dr. Craig Manning. He expressed the importance of our mind being a tool and using it as such. To maximize our potential, we need to channel our training. We may be working our hardest, but we may not be exercising our minds. We need to not only work hard, but work smart.

Dr. Manning also taught us that growth will always be greater if we strengthen what we are already doing well. It is important to build both a mental and emotional skill set. He gave us great tips on how to strengthen and improve those skills. He presented a formula for success: Potential + Training -Interference = CONTROL. In Dr. Manning's words, "Today is my day - I'm making it happen."

Thank you again to our speakers and all of those that attended and assisted with the event!

New Utah Valley Convention Center Under Construction

Rendering of the Utah Valley Convention Center in downtown Provo that is anticipated to be completed by March 2012. (Utah Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau) Deseret News

One cannot drive the streets of downtown Provo without taking note of the 147,000 Sq. Ft. building being erected on Center Street. The Utah Valley Convention Center met a milestone in its construction phase this past month with a “topping out” ceremony to commemorate the last piece of steel lowered into place to complete the structure. There are still 8 more months of work to finish the exterior and interior of the convention center but the steel shell along with majority of heavy crane work is complete.

The Utah Valley Convention Center has been in the minds of local officials for some time. Many subscribe to the “if you build it, they will come” phrase to enhance the economic impact of the community.

As far back as 2010 there was interest in the facility of a meeting planner named Lenore located in Springville. She has been affiliated with the Siberian Husky Club of America for years and previously space would not allow for their national annual showcase to be held in Utah County. When she found out about the convention center she worked diligently with her board to bring the event here in October of 2012. So come that fall, the best husky show dogs in the nation will be in town. For the community it means - Over 550 hotel room nights and 5-6 days of restaurant needs for the 250+ participants not to mention local shopping, entertainment and recreation. That was just the first group, many more are reserving space….

The Chamber Welcomes WingCash

WingCash is a payment platform that allows individuals and businesses to pay one another with cash on the Internet. WingCash payments can be sent securely through e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and directly on the WingCash website. The WingCash payment platform operates like an in-person physical cash transaction: there is no transaction cost or fee for the buyer or the merchant. The monetary value of WingCash payments is represented by WingCash Pages, which can be redeemed by members with a checking or savings account at any financial institution in the United States.

WingCash benefits businesses by eliminating transaction fees for payments sent or received over the Internet. Because WingCash transactions are immediate and are backed by cash, merchants who accept WingCash are also protected from the risk of loss as compared with ordinary cash transactions. Using WingCash also eliminates the costs associated with having a financial institution involved in customer disputes. WingCash provides a unique opportunity for a business to increase brand awareness and to promote its product using the WingCash network.

WingCash benefits consumers through security, ease of use, control over payment timing, improved record of payments, a high degree of transparency and trust with every transaction, and the ability to send and receive real-time, no-fee web payments to friends and family.

WingCash is a Utah Valley company that was founded by Bradley Wilkes in November 2009. The WingCash payment platform was launched in December 2010 and is currently available for businesses throughout the U.S. and for individual users in several states, with further expansion in the works.
